Hello everyone,
Welcome to my blog! I am Elena, a graduating student at American
University in Bulgaria. I have decided to write and share my opinion here about
interesting issues and new trends related to advertising.
Lately, I have been reading articles that relate to the new
way companies are using to promote their products through Instagram. It
appears like a complete shift from the classical definition of advertising and
its channels of delivery. The outcomes show that the strategy has resulted successful
for many brands like Coach, Lancome, Burberry and many more.

Distinctively from other types of advertising in social
media, advertising through Instagram relies mainly in user-generated content
and people’s contribution through personal pictures that expose the certain
product. One main reason why the
strategy is efficient is because people react positively to products (clothes
or accessories) when they are used by their peers rather than
celebrities. For the brands that started to implement the idea it was easy,
because there was already a high level of engagement and users on Instagram,
thus saving companies some time and resources to attract people.
This new way of advertising by taking advantage of
user-generated content is beneficial to companies for three main reasons:
-Allows customers interact, contribute and get attached to the brand
-Helps companies better understand the preferences of their customers.
Companies can use the pictures posted by customers to get a better picture of
what they like so they can produce more of that product. In addition, information
will be used for advertisements that will be part of Instagram pretty soon.
-And above all, is a low-cost advertising
strategy since consumers themselves contribute significantly to this process.
So far, it seems like this will be the future of advertising,
or at least until a more creative way of promoting products appears. What do you think?
